Breast Cancer Research Investigating Research
Durham University are recruiting females for a study. This will involve a 30-minute session scanning your carotid artery using ultrasound at Maiden Castle Labs in the Sports Centre in Durham.

No Smoking Day – Wednesday 13th March
Almost every minute of every day someone is admitted to hospital with a smoking-related disease. It’s much easier to stop smoking when you get the right support and there are lots of options to choose from.

Social Prescribing Day
Thursday 14th March was Social Prescribing Day. Social Prescribing Day is an annual celebration of the people, organisations and communities who make social prescribing happen. Since 2019, thousands of local and national organisations, link workers, medical professionals, academics and students have taken part across the country. Every year, they have joined together to hold events, share ideas and highlight the impact of social prescribing on people and communities. Together, we want to raise awareness of what social prescribing is, how it works, and how it changes lives.

World Sleep Day – Friday 15th March
The theme for this World Sleep Day is Sleep Equity for Global Health. World Sleep Day is an opportunity to promote sleep health alongside thousands of other sleep health professionals and advocates.

Better Health at Work Awards – Women’s Health!
March’s campaign for BHAWA is Women’s Health, this week we have a quiz for everyone to take part in. The person with the highest score will win a prize.

Green Impact Awards – Confidential Waste Bins
We are aware that the confidential waste bins are filling up at present and the next collection is due on 27th March – can all staff ensure that only confidential papers are put into the bins – other papers should be placed in the normal bins however as part of the Green Impact Award we are planning on utilising non-confidential papers for recycling as notepads – watch this space.

Updated Safeguarding Lead
Susan Maddison is now the Safeguarding Lead for Children, Adults and Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation. For a full list of organisational lead responsibilities please see the attached document.

Goodbyes
This week we say goodbye to Jennie Metcalfe. Everybody at DDHF wishes Jennie the best of luck for the future.

Good Friday and Easter Monday
We have been asked to extend our provision for Bank Holiday Monday by the ICB. This is currently being arranged to support the added pressure that Bank Holidays bring on the system. From April onwards extended Sunday and Bank Holiday cover will cease along with the additional appointments provided by Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) hours from 5th April 2024.
